  • Germany, Angola sign deals on aviation, agriculture, industry
  • Lufthansa to support restructuring of Angola’s TAAG airline
  • Visit aims to deepen ties; 2023 trade totaled €640 million

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Angolan President João Lourenço signed several agreements to strengthen cooperation during Steinmeier’s official visit to Angola on November 5, 2025.

The deals span air transport, agriculture, and industrial development. Key among them is a contract between German carrier Lufthansa and Angola’s national airline, TAAG, under which Lufthansa Consulting will assist in restructuring TAAG.

A separate memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlines plans to establish an agro-industrial development hub with Angola’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Gauff Engineering KG, and CHB Investment Holding. An exchange of letters formally confirmed all the agreements reached between the two governments.

President Lourenço said the visit would help strengthen bilateral relations. For his part, Steinmeier noted that the agreements reflected both nations’ commitment to deepening cooperation.

The two countries have maintained a comprehensive partnership since July 2011, supported by a bilateral commission involving several ministries. According to the German Federal Foreign Office, bilateral trade totaled about €640 million ($738 million) in 2023, €356 million in imports and €282 million in exports.

Steinmeier’s stop in Luanda forms part of a wider diplomatic tour of North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
